Paper Quality
One of the first things we’ll ask you is, “What paper stock do you want your flyers to be printed on?”
We understand that this question is somewhat confusing but we are here to help. This is important information that our print suppliers need as we need to tell them what paper thickness the clients job needs to be printed on.
In the printing industry GSM means “Grams per Square Meter’. Usually the higher the GSM, the heavier the paper. However, certain GSM’s are better suited for some jobs more than others.

Paper Types
Bond
This paper type is what most stationery items are printed on e.g. Letterheads, Compliment Slips and Envelopes. The standard gsm found in your home printer is 90gsm. It’s better known as Offset or Laser. This paper type is not recommended for promotional items.
Coated Paper
This paper type is what most promotional items are printed on e.g. Flyers, Brochures, Postcards, Posters etc. Coated paper stock has a surface sealant which often contains clay. By coating paper, this reduces the dot gain by restricting the ink from absorbing into the surface of the paper. This sealant allows for crisper print, especially for full coloured graphics, photos, gradients and fine detailed images.
However, this paper type is not recommended for regular stationery items. This finish can either be a gloss, satin/silk or matte.
Gloss
Gloss paper is what most customers print with. This paper finish has a high sheen similar to a magazine.
It’s cheaper than matte even though they are equal paper thickness.
Satin/Silk
Satin/Silk paper has a smooth surface finish which is low in gloss. This paper stock is between a matte and gloss finish.
Matte
Matte paper is a non-gloss with little sheen. This paper stock creates a flat looking finish.
Uncoated Paper
This paper stock has no extra coating meaning there is no glare on the surface. Since this paper stock has not been coated with clay or other dry surfaces, ink series by absorbing into the paper. This gives it a flat and dull appearance. This is ideal for flyers that have lots of text or reading materials. This paper type is used on specialty stationery items such as Business Cards, Letterheads and Invitations.
Recycled Paper
This paper stock is uncoated and has a warm natural white shade. It has a raw yet elegant finish that is speckle free, delivers high quality prints that results in rich solids and sharp detail. This paper stock can be printed for Envelopes, Annual reports, Cards, Brochures, Corporate reports, Direct mail and Stationery. It’s ideal and suited for general printing purposes.
